چکیده

Radical cystectomy in females is increasingly being followed by orthotopic urinary diversion. This is particularly true when it comes to young patients. Wisahi et al. [1] from Egypt describe a small series of such patients with Bilharziosis associated bladder cancer. The results presented match well with those presented in other series [2, 3, 4]. Nerve-sparing radical cystectomy has been shown to be the most important determinant for subsequent neobladder function and sexual quality of life. Preservation of the uterus as proposed herein allows for very extensive nerve sparing. Moreover, dorsal stability is provided for the neobladder, which is also considered helpful in preventing obstruction. However, even with this approach still 3 women require CIC in this group. One may argue that other unknown factors could also be influential. Neobladder type itself does not Sparing radical cystectomy – How much is enough?

Current status of laparoscopic and robot-assisted nerve-sparing radical cystectomy in male patients

During radical cystectomy (RC), the neurovascular bundles are easily removed or damaged, leading to varying rates of incontinence and erectile dysfunction. The nerve-sparing technique was developed to preserve urinary and erectile function. The adoption of laparoscopic and robot-assisted technology has improved visualization and dexterity of pelvic surgeries, thus facilitate the nerve-sparing t...

Bladder preservation with brachytherapy compared to cystectomy for T1-T3 muscle-invasive bladder cancer: a systematic review

PURPOSE Radical cystectomy currently is the treatment of choice in muscle-invasive bladder cancer. However, cystectomy is associated with considerable morbidity. Bladder sparing treatment consists of transurethral resection of the tumor (with or without partial cystectomy), external beam radiotherapy, and brachytherapy. The purpose of this study is to compare bladder preservation with brachythe...

Bladder-sparing treatment of invasive bladder cancer.

BACKGROUND Radical cystectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection is the standard treatment for patients with invasive bladder cancer. However, many alternative techniques to spare the bladder have been investigated. METHODS We review the experience reported in the literature on bladder-sparing techniques, including transurethral resection, chemotherapy, and radiation for muscle-invasive diseas...

Standard cystectomy fits all: truth or myth?

Radical cystectomy (RC) with pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) followed by urinary diversion is the treatment of choice for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (BC) and non-invasive BC refractory to transurethral resection of the bladder (TUR-B) and/or intravesical instillation therapies. Since the morbidity and possible mortality of this surgery are relevant, care must be taken in the preoperativ...

AB007. Bladder-sparing treatments for muscle-invasive bladder cancer

Radical cystectomy (RC) with pelvic lymph node dissection remains the gold-standard treatment for muscleinvasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Growing evidence suggests that bladder-sparing treatments may lead to acceptable oncologic outcomes in carefully selected patients and can offer improved quality of life through preservation of a functioning bladder. We summarize our clinical experience of blad...
